Understanding Billing & Health Insurance Claims
Riverside Healthcare makes it easy for our patients to understand our billing and claims process. Download and print our informative brochure about the billing process, patient responsibilities and helpful hints for assistance. If you have any questions about the material in the brochure, please get in touch with the Patient Financial Services Department at (815) 935-7539.
There are programs available that are not well known, such as the All Kids Program (learn more https://www.illinoiscaresforkids.org/), which offers Illinois’ uninsured children comprehensive health care that includes doctor’s visits, hospital stays, prescription drugs, vision care, dental care and medical devices, eyeglasses and asthma inhalers. Parents pay monthly premiums for the coverage, but rates are significantly lower than on the private market.
Financial Assistance
As a service to our community, Riverside provides care at a reduced rate or without charge to eligible persons demonstrating financial need and the inability to pay. Additionally, Riverside offers reasonable payment plans to meet financial obligations, and uninsured patients receive an automatic discount on total gross billed charges.
You can call (815) 935-7539 to apply for assistance, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST). You may also find additional information on our Financial Assistance and apply Page.
Hospital Charge Description Master Disclaimer
At Riverside Medical Center, we are committed to price transparency and to helping patients better understand the costs of their care. To support this, we have published our list of charges (known as the “chargemaster”) for both inpatient and outpatient services.
However, it’s important to know that this list may not be the most useful tool for understanding your personal financial responsibility. The way services are described can vary from hospital to hospital, and a single procedure may include multiple charges from different departments. For that reason, the chargemaster on its own does not give patients a complete picture of what they might owe.
If you are seeking an estimate for a specific test or procedure ordered by your provider, we recommend one of the following options:
-
Contact your insurance carrier: They can calculate an estimate based on your coverage and benefits.
-
Request an estimate from the hospital: Riverside can provide an estimate by reviewing the typical charges for your procedure, applying the negotiated rate with your insurance company, and giving you an approximation of your likely out-of-pocket cost.
Please note that while these estimates are designed to be as accurate as possible, they may not reflect the exact final balance due to pending insurance claims or other unforeseen factors. Still, they can serve as a much more reliable guide to help you make informed decisions about your healthcare spending.
For more information about charges for your care or to request a cost estimate, please contact one of our Customer Service Representatives at (815) 935-7539 or email us at CustomerService@RiversideHealthcare.net
